After several days of searching on and off for it online, I finally found it streaming for free without having to fill out surveys or download anything here. Now, onto my thoughts... I'm kinda tired of "where's blank?" followed by "we need to concentrate on you right now," LoL. "3 days short of forever" is silly. The amputated finger shocked me, BIG TIME. I was surprised how well Serena did in the hyperbaric chamber after her initial claustrophobic freak-out. Quick thinking on her part, too, to get the bag with the rip fixed temporarily. The diagnostic session outside was very House, MD, but it worked. That EMT who messed up with the finger count and then found the finger was cute, he totally looked freaked and then relieved. I love how we keep hearing new stuff about DeLeo's past. It makes me sad that the show was canceled because I want to learn more, LoL. It was sweet how the emergency made them not want to put off getting married any longer. Serena turning down the guy in person to try out seeing her text-boy in real life was interesting, too, and I can't wait to see how that turned out.Sunday:Sons of Tucson (S01E06): Stair Luge. Awesome in concept, bad in execution. "That thing on my knee was serious... it's called a boo-boo!" hahaha. He does make a bad father... not letting you into the bathroom, leaving the kids alone for the weekend, etc. I loved the littlest kid's acting when he pulls a hot dog out of one pocket and a cheese stick out of another and keeps a straight face, lmao. And the oldest kid getting taken for both his phone and his wallet is even funnier. And the middle kid gets drunk... go figure. Brandon, Gary, and Robbie... I need to remember their names. I thought it was funny that Ron pulled the fire alarm so nobody else was sleeping, either... haha! Kate Plus Eight (S01xx): this show took a week off, but I did dig up a tiny bit of info... The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry granted the work permits to the kids on April 26th, so they couldn't have filmed before that I guess. Monday:Little People, Big World (S05E39 & S05E40): [these seem to be jointly referred to as the season finale] ...weeds took over? Is there no grooming in the off-season or something? I loved Amy's dotted top. I think having it as a dress would be darling. It's one week before pumpkin season at the beginning, so that means it's the last week of September (season started for them October 2nd, according to Matt's twitter). The whole thing about it being a farm vs. being commercial was interesting. I think Amy's comment about just giving up and selling the farm was a bit out of context. [I was just thinking, what are those forts/treehouses that they built earlier this season being used for, now? Maybe he should've had them be more mobile so they could be donated somewhere.] I was surprised at how many people were at the pumpkin meeting... that's a TON! Geez, $4k for structural changes is rough! Especially since you have to bring in some of the pumpkins! It was kinda weird that he "brought his engineer" to the meeting... but we don't get a good shot of "him" nor do they put his name up, even tho we get plenty of other explanations of who's who in this episode. The baby barbary lion was super cool! Did it stick around for the entire pumpkin season, I wonder? I'm glad that they were able to open because it would have sucked to do all that extra work and then be foced to sit out. Too bad the bridge wasn't allowed to open tho. I bet because of that scene last year, LoL.I think this episode must have taken place before the pumpkin one, since, according to Portland Community College's academic calendar (they apparently go to the Rock Creek campus), classes started September 21st, and we know that pumpkin season didn't even start until October. Weird that Jeremy doesn't even answer his dad's phone call from the home office... and what was that little cart that Zach was driving around? Zach is taking 3 classes? Jeremy is taking 2?? What is this mess? And if Jeremy was already going in for academic advising to get his writing class on a day other than Saturday, why not also get some advice on what else to take, since he told his parents "everything...

George Clooney Testifies Against Celebrity Clothing Lines [Rag Trade]

  • Jul 19, 2010 from jezebel(Jezebel) in Entertainment
jezebel Not only does George Clooney not have a clothing line, he is so offended by the notion that he would have one that he's testifying against three guys who claimed that he was launching a line called "GC Exclusive."

"I came here because I believe in the judicial system and because there were people using my name to take advantage of people," the actor told the court, after several women were ejected by the judge for taking his picture. Clooney says that pictures purporting to show him with the defendants, and copies of contracts bearing his signature, are forgeries. "It's the first time I've ever seen him," Clooney said of one defendant, "so I'd like to say, Hello, nice to meet you.'" Pointing to a picture he says was altered, he explained, "Here, for instance, I don't smoke and I don't wear that watch. I also don't wear long jean shorts." [WWD]
One celeb who's not embarrassed to be pimping his name for fashion: Liam Gallagher, who is still making his astonishingly boring clothing line, Pretty Green. "We're not like all them fashion designers," the musician says. "These are just for lads on the street." [Vogue UK]
Courtney Love's amazing style blog is written by herself, a girl named T ("a third- or fourth-row junior Tavi"), a fashion magazine employee named L, and a guy named X whose identity even Love doesn't know. Love provides the pictures, they mostly do the commentary. "I haven't been offended once in the past two days. I trust them not to screw me," says Love. "The only thing I can think of is that it will make me do my hair more." [WWD]
"Calvin Klein originally started the whole waif moment and not much has been done since then," says Francisco Costa. "My clothes look better on a more diverse casting to represent the women who actually buy them. They can be 35 or 25 but they need to be worn on intelligent, experienced women. [Our decision to use older models] was very natural. We have succeeded so far and we hope to continue with that." Costa says Lara Stone, the current face of the house, is "very current, very beautiful, and very womanly." Translation: She's skinny but she has boobs. [Vogue UK]
Lakshmi Menon says that leaving India four years ago kick-started a modeling career that had been comparatively lackluster in her native land. "Back home very few people wanted to hire me. It became clear to me that my skin colour was not in demand," says Menon. "I didn't have much of a career apart from the odd editorial or campaign and the fact is that fairer-skinned models have found more success in India." Skin-lightening creams many of which contain hazardous chemicals out-sell Coke in India. Strangely, the Indian fashion industry seems in some ways to be more accepting of darker-skinned models than Bollywood, which overwhelmingly features lighter-skinned actresses. [Guardian]
Nicholas Ghesquire, Superstar: The Fashion Group International is naming Balenciaga designer Ghesquire a "Superstar" at its annual awards show this year. [WWD]
Dita von Teese's beauty routine is simple and quick, yo! "I have a lot of friends that have a very natural look and it takes just as long," says von Teese. "They straighten their hair, wear all that bronzer and beige lipstick and apply 50 coats of mascara to make themselves look natural. I'm doing the same thing just with different colours. I set my hair which is actually quicker than a blow dry. I get ready just as quick as any other woman I know." [Vogue UK]
Victoria's Secret used bedbug-sniffing dogs to deal with a small infestation that closed its Lexington Avenue store last week. [The Cut]
Hickey Freeman, the men's clothier that filed for bankruptcy protection in 2009, is trying to update its offerings. [WSJ]
Herms, Oscar de la Renta, Missoni, Van Cleef & Arpels, Christian Louboutin, and Louis Vuitton are among the luxury companies expanding in the Middle East. One Italian industry group projects 6.6% market growth this year. [WWD]
Meanwhile, Versace is doing the interiors for a 30-storey tower in Beirut. [WWD]
"There was olive-green happening. There was twill happening...I don't think you need to write 800 words about lace. Just say it works in accessories and apparel and move on." Trend forecasting sure seems like a cushy gig. [WSJ]
Burberry has bought back its own retail operations in China from its Hong Kong-based former franchisee for a cool $107.8 million. It now owns and operates all of its stores in the emerging markets of China, the Middle East, and Brazil. [WWD]
Marc Jacobs' Tokyo flagship doesn't even open until November, but the building has already won an architecture award. [WWD]
Opening Ceremony's newest collaboration with Timberland has resulted in neon neoprene boat shoes. That cost $95. [The Cut]
Norma Kamali's Wal-Mart line is adding a range of sleepwear in sizes up to 3XL. "I realized that I never thought I was designing for plus-size women when I was designing the collection. But then I noticed that the XLs were selling and I thought, I need to...

How to Travel 12 Countries with No Baggage Whatsoever (+ Cool Giveaway)

  • Aug 21, 2010 from timferriss in Lifestyle
timferriss Starting tomorrow, travel writer Rolf Potts will embark on a trip that will take him around the world without using a single piece of luggage. This post will explain how hes going to do it, and theres a kick-ass giveaway at the end
For six weeks he will explore 12 countries on five continents, crossing the equator four times, without carrying so much as a man-purse. The few items he does bring will be tucked away in his pockets. Though hes a seasoned minimalist traveler (famous from his book Vagabonding), he usually travels with a single overhead-bin-perfect backpack, the Eagle Creek Thrive 65L. Its been his go-to bag for the last 3-4 years.
So why attempt to travel the world with no luggage at all?
Rolf sees his journey as a real-time experiment in traveling ultra-light, and a field-test for a more philosophical idea that what we experience in life is more important than what we bring with us.
While circumnavigating the globe with no luggage sounds like a clear enough proposition, it can raise a few semantic issues. What, for example, counts as a bag? Rolf has set up a set of ground rules to guide his own journey, including:
    - No bags on the journey (not even a man-purse or grocery store bag, unless the latter is used en route to a meal).
    - No borrowing items from his cameraman or using his cameraman as a pack mule.
    - Borrowing or buying items along the way is permitted but excludes bags.
Since most people dont travel with a film crew, Rolfs advice for the average no-baggage traveler is a bit broader than the rules hes set for himself. Here are 8 key tips from Rolf on how to plan and execute a no-luggage journey.
    In Rolfs words
    1) Manage the journey from your mobile phone.
A smartphone could well be the most important tool for a baggage-less traveler. It can store your boarding passes and other important documents, make phone calls from virtually anywhere in the world (with a swappable SIM card) and even act as a miniature blogging tool.
I recommend an iPhone with a foldable Bluetooth keyboard, which allows you to fit your mobile office inside a single jacket pocket. The iPhone can be loaded with a series of applications to replace everyday day items carried on a normal trip. The Kindle app lets you leave behind bulky books, and Genius Scan lets you use you iPhones camera as a makeshift scanner so you can quickly save receipts and email them to yourself on the fly. Wikihood utilizes the phones GPS to serve location-relevant Wikipedia articles, which is a unique and interesting alternative to a guidebook. Throw in your favorite currency converter, phrase book, and flight tracker, and youve got a single device in your pocket more powerful than its dead-weight paper counterparts.
    Some recommedations:
    TripTracker by PageOnce
Lonely Planet series of phrase books (multiple links depending on language)

    _blank">Currency converter: Currency
    2) Keep your footwear simple and practical.
With no bags, the only shoes youre going to want to bring is whatever youre wearing from day to day.
Im traveling with a pair of Blundstone boots I bought in Australia in 2006. Ive worn these boots all over the world the past four years, from Paris to Ethiopia to the Falkland Islands, and theyve served me great. They work for hiking in remote environments, yet theyre easy to slip off and on at airport security.
Some travelers might prefer Chaco or Teva sandals (if nothing else to save packing socks) and I wont fault them for that but my Blundstones look nice enough that they will get me into places where sandals might seem too informal. You are on your feet constantly when you travel, of course, so whichever footwear you choose to bring (be it sandals or boots or running shoes), make sure you aim for comfort, simplicity, and durability.
(Note from Tim: I opt for darker-colored Keen Newport Bison Leather Sandals. If you use black or dark socks, since they have closed toes, you can easily get into restaurants or even pass for business casual if you tuck the tightening strings in.)
    3) Buy or borrow certain items as you go.
An old vagabonding adage goes, Pack twice the money and half the gear.
The same notion applies to no-luggage travel even if youre only packing a tenth of the gear. If a journey takes you to a beautiful beach region, odds are you can buy rubber flip-flop sandals there for a few dollars. If a given city is rainy, cheap umbrellas should be in plentiful supply and if you get sick, the world is full of pharmacies (many of which are better-suited to cure local ailments that whatever medicine you might have packed).
Should you travel your way into cold weather, thrift stores are a good place to buy a warm jacket (which can be given way to a needy person or left in a hostel swap-box when you leave). You can also borrow things from other travelers along the way. You dont want to be obnoxious about this, of course, but most travelers dont mind sharing a spot of toothpaste or a couple of aspirin, and...

'Pretty Little Liars' Costume Designer Mandi Line Reveals How to Dress on a Pretty Little Budget

If you've ever watched "Gossip Girl" and become embittered by the idea of fictional teens wearing ensembles that cost more than your monthly rent, then you'll appreciate "Pretty Little Liars" costume designer Mandi Line's approach to what she calls "obtainable fashion."

"When I came in [to 'Pretty Little Liars'], I said, these characters, all of them, need to be a combination of retail and thrift, and since I'm definitely a costume designer and not a stylist, I can make things and we can make it obtainable," Line tells StyleList from the set of the new ABC Family drama, which, like "Gossip Girl," is based on a best-selling young-adult book series.

"What I like to do is ask, 'Where would this character shop in real life?' On "Gossip Girl" things get thrown at them from every designer for free," says Line, "but that doesn't happen in reality."

Ashley Benson, who plays Hanna, the most fashionable "Liar," praises Line's ability to create outfits that aren't simply aspirational, but are actually attainable with the right deal-hunting skills and a little handiwork.

"Mandi is so great with creating outfits," says Benson. "She buys a lot of basic pieces and then adds fabric or lace to tops, adds studs to jeans, and she makes a lot of jewelry as well. It's all so cheap and unique, and you'll be the only person wearing it. It's nice to buy less expensive clothes and make them dope by adding a few things that reflect your personal style."

Line offers the following advice for achieving a wardrobe worthy of the small screen.

    Focus on your upper half.
Line's price point per outfit for each of the female characters is about $300, which admittedly is still more than most people have in their budget. However, she reuses pieces just like we civilians do. "For most women, the bottom half [of an outfit] isn't the most memorable part, it's the top half," Line says. "I always wear this one asymmetrical black skirt, but I wear a different top all the time. That's where I can keep the price point between $150 - $300."

Get more bang for your buck with accessories.
"Accessories are bigger than ever," says Line. "Women wear more than they ever have! Look at Rihanna - every finger is full of rings, she has bracelets up to her elbows - everything is larger than life. You can re-wear a summer dress once a week and pair it with a different belt, boot, and long necklace. A good straw fedora is always the best to kick something up. There's no new, hot anything - it's just recycling things that have been done before."

    Size does matter.
"Fit is really important," insists Line. "A lot of designers just throw stuff on and say, 'That fits.' Then you watch it on camera, and it's as simple as taking something in half an inch or taking it up an inch. That's why people like James Perse T-shirts versus a Target T-shirt, because the James Perse T-shirt is tailored. Tailoring really, really matters."

    Splurge every so often.
If you're going to go all out on one item this summer, Line suggests a timeless hat or wedge shoe. "A Makins hat goes from day to night. It's around $300, but I don't care if you have a tank top and jeans on or a summer dress - with the right Makins hat, it kills the outfit," she enthuses. "Their hats are exquisite. And [invest in] a really good wedge. A nice, chunky, not-too-pattern-y, not-too-bright, classic great wedge is important for summer. You can go to Target and get a great summer strappy dress, and if you get a nice chunky wedge [and wear those] as opposed to flip flops, you can go out to dinner in that."

Know where to find hidden gems in your neighborhood.
An L.A. girl through and through, Line scours local stores for great finds after hunting at department stores like Macy's, Bloomingdale's and Nordstrom. "I go to LF a lot [in L.A.'s Larchmont area]," she offers. "They have totally obtainable prices. Also, Polkadots & Moonbeams [on Third Street], Una Mae's in Los Feliz, and Wasteland. This is all affordable. I'm always at Sunset Junction picking up stuff at Pull My Daisy. I really like the scene on the east side of L.A."

    Get crafty.
"A lot of times with Hanna, we can't afford what she would have," explains Line. "I might get a really cool tee from LF and make the neckline bigger, because people are wearing off the shoulder. I'll add lace to it, I'll add a trim to it. I dye things all the time if they're not the right color. With the men's stuff, you can go to Target and find a cool pair of jeans. You can take sandpaper to them, dye them, and rough things up to make them look worn in. Also, once you cut and change things, save the scraps. You never know when they'll make a great headband or bracelet."

    Be a sale-section success.
"I'm a snob and I hate to go in the sale section, but you do find...
